With all of the (mostly useless) golf magazines and articles littering the store shelves and the internet, I was thinking about a TGM magazine. I am just looking for input from the forum members on how this magazine would be received. I doubt that it could compete with Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, but do you think there is a market? Will there be a larger market once TGM gets "out there" in the next year or so? I think there are enough intelligent and experienced AIs who could contribute articles and Lynn could have a monthly column to himself. Scientific testing and reports could be done to rid the golf world of myths (hit up on drives, being one) and Tour player's swings could be broken down and analyzed using TGM references. I think it would be interesting to take a high handicap player and give him one "TGM lesson" per month and have a column detailing his progress. How 'bout it?
I would LOVE to see a TGM magazine. I have tried to talk Brady from Golf Tips to include a TGM column by Yoda without success.
This is not easy. (read- money)
A magazine is a small corporation. There would be a question of financing the venture.
Who would be the advertisers that pays for each issue to be published? Every page in any newspaper or magazine is supported by advertisement. No ad- no page.
Who heads the subscription department, the marketing and promotion to get the magazine in the hands of golfers? Who will be the editor in chief? What do you pay for articles and pictures? Who shoots the cover? What is the lead story this month. A magazine is a whole lot of monkey to control.
I have tried to get the newspaper I work for to include a weekly Sunday golf lesson column featuring TGM. No was the answer, even if it was done by a local AI, let alone by Yoda.
The content you want to see in the magazine are excellent. Maybe they can be used as part this forum or an online ‘zine. Even a well written blog is far less expensive the even a single page of print.
If the new owners of TGM had any money or better yet, had someone else’s money, a quarterly or semi-annual magazine would be a dream come true for both of us, as well as many others that yearn for top notch, respected G.O.L.F. information.
I think a TGM would make a perfect subject for a magazine.
I would expect it to start as a subscriber newsletter. Perhaps once every two months. Then as it catches on, every month.
Seems to me this place, an others like it, are the 'modern' magazine. What you want to do in print can/is being done online now. The only difference is the organization of the site.
Create a secion on the site that is read only. Send out monthly emails linking to it.
Much simpler than a printed mag, much cheaper and folks can print off copies if they still want something on paper. Instant worldwide distribution for significantly less. Ordering/printing an e-mag wouldn't be hard if done by the user. PDF format or similar.
Of course you still have the 'editorial' and layout work that would take a fair amount of time, but could be done with much less labor. I'm sure there must be some members who are in/know the publishing business that could help out with some of the 'gotcha's' that this format might present, but otherwise - full steam ahead -
Carpe Diem - EdZ

I know for a fact that Yoda will be starting a newsletter in the not to distant future.
We intend to turn this site into a meaningful and valuable TGM resource, with up to date lessons, videos, golf schools, and contributions from a variety of TGM instructors. We want to make this better than any golf magazine out there!
In my opinion, there is already far more content provided on the Forums and the video that Lynn, Chuck and Brian are or soon will be implementing will be far superior to anything that a magazine could offer. Ever try to get a magazine to answer a question about your golf swing?
I absolutley agree. The best is yet to come and won't it be fine.....

You bet, Trig. The Newsletter will be beautifully formatted and delivered via The Web at a fraction of the cost incurred by the Dead Tree Press. And with far greater functionality: When was the last time you clicked on a magazine page and got video?
I think if you utilized the stroke pattern concept with any articles in a magazine format...."if you build it they will come"... (it will blow away any magazine out there)....it will only spark interest in understanding the individual stroke components and snowball into learning the more complex topics in chapters 2 and 6.
I believe this would jump start TGM to national status...

Certainly the content of the instruction that TGM would present to readers would be the best but without a star studded staff of the nation's best magazine writer, photographers, editors, layout , desgn and marketing talent, the magazine would fall short of blowing anyone out the water. And that takes a ton of money and time to build a reputation.
Good intentions doesn't produce results without talent. Talent costs.
The internet and Lynn has kicked start TGM along with Evans, Gring, Stickney and a few others that were never afraid to utter Homer's name in thanks.
The net and TGM are a perfect match for the time being. One day the rest of the world will see the genius of The Golfing Machine and it will beat our doors down to get it in their magazines. I can’t wait for that day.
