How to turn an albatross into a birdie.
Hit the first tee shot out of bounds of course.

Happened to me Wednesday, 18th hole of our bi-weekly open mens day tournament. Had been playing about average, came to the last hole, needing just par to improve my handicap( currently 7.9).

Had gotten a little sloppy on the back 9 after a 38 on the front, and then on my 18th, our courses 1st hole (shotgun start on no. 2) a pretty easy par 5 at 490 yds, hit the tee shot OB left. OK, tee it up again and aim right and hit just into the right rough.

I've got about 230 to the front of the green and there's a creek that crosses about 100 yards in front of the green, normally from the rough and this lie, grass not to high, but sitting down, I'd lay up, but said to heck with it and pulled out the 3 wood.

Took a deep breath, took dead aim at the flag and let her rip. It felt and looked great, never left the flag, bounced once in front of the green and that was the last I saw of it.

Got to the green and couldn`t find the ball, I thought I'd left it short, my playing partners were sure it rolled over the green into what is pretty heavy rough, and easy to lose a ball in. After a minute or two of looking, I said what the heck, I'll take a look into the cup. There it was, a nice shiny ProV1 that had only been hit twice, looking up at me.

Nice birdie!

By the way, we started late, at 3pm, and I had spent 2 hours earlier in the day hitting nothing but basic motion and acquired motion shots. Time well spent. Now if I could just get rid of that 1 bad hook that sneeks in there every now and then....
