I was just watching a good player of mine today hit balls and was amazed at the pull cuts, Pulls, and a couple pull draws. Not something that I like to see out of his swing and I knew why he was doing it, just did not know how he got the idea..
So that lead me to thinking about things you don't hear talked about that much in golf instruction, yeah you hear OTT and I am referring to it as OTT @ the bottom. I'm sure there is a TGM term for this but I just thought I would bring it to the board for discussion. Why this is a common trait only in better players?
After watching him hit a few more balls I asked what he was feeling, because he knew he was missing it, and I knew he was missing it, so whats was the feel.. I had already narrowed down he was not getting into his left side correct and trying to just turn the hips, but since he "Harley's" the club he gets down tot he ball on a good arc but the hip turn and level left hip gets the shoulders too open at the last moment. OTT@TB.. Once again whats the feel I asked? My shoulders opening too quick at impact so I am trying to hold the shoulders back long, NO! I asked him why are the shoulders being open and why would you forcefully want to hold them back? Good point! So we went into a bump lateral shift, focus on the left lower side. It took him a few shots and he felt it, then bam! back to crisp iron shots that started on line. The best part about it is the feel he had he also discovered a new feel of the right way.
Just wanted to bring that up as a point not talked about much also, you can hold a fly wedge and still hit the ball left by bad lower action.
