I paid a visit to the swamp last week on a nice, but windy day. I only had 6 or so hours to work with Lynn and crew, but, we covered a TON! How was the lesson……The very best I have ever had. What was the biggest change Lynn made with me as a golfer? He changed my Mind!.........From there, everything else is just a matter of time and practice.
When you go, (and you must go, because you are reading this, I know you Love this game and want to improve), you will begin with Lynn describing AND demonstrating the flying wedges, extensor actions, plane angles, and the like. BRING YOUR CAMRECORDER! (I did, thank God), and bring an extra tapes and a back-up battery to capture as much as possible. It’s your take home instruction tape for life. I have reviewed mine at least 4 times since last Wednesday.
Lynn is a wonderful communicator and motivator. What I like about his teaching approach is that he DEMONSTRATES everything….I mean everything. And he focuses on precision. “you either do or don’t do, there is no try…” so, you know when he says you have done something right, you really have.
Then you move from Basic Motion, to Acquired Motion, and executing them with precision, so that you feel what those motions are like. You also hit some flops and really understand how and why practicing in these two areas is so important to implementing whatever swing changes you must do to improve.
After my filmed swing, (I am a swinger), we hit some more pitch shots, went to lunch and moved over to the range to work in Acquired Motion and Total Motion. My biggest swing problems…….Extensor Action, Tracing the plane line on the downswing, and executing horizontal hinge action with swivel….so understanding and improving on those is where we spent the bulk of the afternoon’s work. Great drills and great demonstration…..lots of motivation….Great lesson. I was encouraged to do my drills every day for the next 30 days…but in reality, I am sure that the areas we focused on will be my work for the summer. The good thing…I don’t have to worry about so many other drills since the ones I am doing apply most to me.
Is there anything I would change….YES…I would make sure I flew in the night before and had all day to work with Lynn. I learned so much. I will certainly be back, either for a private lesson or to one of his golf schools. I really like that I can now focus primarily on swinging, and not get lost in reading unnecessary stuff that doesn’t apply to my swing right know. I have much better clarity of where I am and where I am going. Highly recommended trip to all. Lynn is the real thing, and it is well worth the money. He even called me two days after the visit to give me one additional point of emphasis, post follow-thru swivel to eradicate the slight fade tendency.
By the way Lynn, I played yesterday (only 9 holes) and shot a 40 while in 20+ mph wind! (I am a 12 handicap). My friend already commented on my “new” top of backswing. I hit the ball very well. ……..Thanks for your time and energy!
Glad you had a great experience! I went in January and had a fantastic learning session. I'm also glad you posted. Many think that Yoda is strickly a mean green hitting machine. He's really a mean yellow Golfing Machine. We hear from a lot of converted hitters, so it's good to hear from a drag loader!
I have made about 5 copies of my tape! It's definitely a keeper for life. I watch it at least 2 times a month and pick up stuff every time.
Congrats on your super day! <All> To reemphasize 300D, the CAMCORDER is a MUST. Yoda fed me all I could handle, and then some. Expect his Southern hospitality to include the most generous portions of knowledge. On my tapes were a number of hints, tips, and directions that were lost on me in the day. But they have been invaluable to me in review over the past month.
Again 300D, glad to hear you made the trip. LBG is alive and well in Michigan now.

PS... BTW, if anybody is tentative about making the trip to Marietta due to logistics, I would be happy to share my Exit 261 Solution. Puts you right next to the Cracker Barrel, modest price quality room, 10 minutes to the Swamp, checked out restaurants, and includes a service station that will expedite repairs for traveling golfers.
300D is an excellent example of the promise of The Golfing Machine: Where desire and work ethic meet the correct information...Magic happens!
Courtesy of his airline, we didn't get in quite as much time as we had planned: He arrived on time, but not so his Clubs...they never did make it. Time spent chasing them down plus his emergency trip to Edwin Watts for shoes and a glove caused our traditional Cracker Barrel breakfast and Geometry lesson to go by the wayside. Not to worry, though, he's got a rain check with no expiry!
His major Swing change was remarkable. His pre-lesson video analysis highlighted what he already knew to be a problem: Overswinging. His eight-iron was going past parallel and his Extensor Action was...well, it wasn't. When we reached the Total Motion stage of his training, we -- both of us! -- went to work in ernest to correct these malfuncitons.
The root causes were twofold. First, 300D had to learn how to properly apply Extensor Aciton. Actually, our work in this area had begun with the Chips and Pitches of the Basic Motion Curriculum and needed only to be expanded into the Total Motion. The other bugaboo was a Cocked Right Wrist at the Top. He already understood (intellectually) that the Right Wrist only Bends at the Top (and does not Cock). Unfortunately, his Hands did not! Plus, they were stubborn. It was not enough to know that they were not going along with the program. We had to figure out how to make it happen.
After a couple of blind alleys, we hit paydirt. We took the motion apart and came up with a special piece-by-piece assembly exercise that nailed the correct Mechanic. That was his big "Aha!" Moment. With his new Bent Right Wrist in place, he learned to limit his Motion to a Straight Line Top (10-23-A). Then, when we put in place the correct On Plane Start Down, his improvement was immediate and dramatic. It is no exaggeration to say that he looked like a completely different player: More structured, more disciplined, more Powerful.
From there it was a cakewalk. He soon learned he could hit the Ball every bit as far as with his old Swing, but much more consistently. After he had completed the mashing of an adequate number of Iron shots, I handed him the Driver. The sound of Compression echoing through The Swamp is always music to these green ears, and I've got to tell you that I enjoyed 300D's one-man concert!
300D, thank you for the thrill of watching you absorb and apply the principles of The Golfing Machine. It was an impressive demonstration, and I am confident that your plummet into the realm of the single-digit handicap is imminent. In fact, I would say that achievement is coming sooner rather than later.
