speedchain
There are number of people on the GEA forum who claim the speedchain is the ultimate aid for increasing clubhead speed. This is considered the pylometric drill ideal for the golf swing.

Anybody have experience with this and why it is supposed to be more effective than anything else for speed.

Hopefully someone with experience with this training tool will chime in. The aspects it provides to help your stroke is balance, feel, sound, and visuals. Sounds good as long as you are confident in your basic technique. I am going to the Golf Warehouse this week. Maybe I can get some feedback there and maybe even a demonstration. Vik

Dave: Here is some info

http://www.golf-swing-tips.com/speed-chain.html

"How does the speedchain work?
It creates a variable weight resistance that allows for high acceleration at the initiation of the
downswing. Then milliseconds later near impact, it compels the golfer to produce huge
amounts of force thereby allowing one to increase his/her strength at the point of contact. In
physics this is increasing one’s impulse or applying one’s force for a longer period of time."

Speed Chain
The Speedchain is effective in building golf speed/muscles. Although Swing speed is worthless without lag. You need ample space and preferably use over a tightly woven carpet.

Speedchain's is a tremendous tool to protect and or rehab rotator cuff injuries. Figure eights, circles, tennis backhands, overhead throws are terrific exercises. The range of motion is unlimited (unlike bands).

Chain(s) is the only device I have found that can replicate exact sport motions while building strength.
If you are serious about speed training it is a good purchase.

looks like you could kill yourself with that thing. A lot of money for a chain.

I cannot reliably state the speed increase. I know I was hitting the ball further this summer. Some of that is due to TGM.

The device is not cheap. Chain is expensive (check your hardware store). The chain gets progressively heavier.
The faster and further you throw the chain the greater the resistance. What other training device compares?

I use the Speedchain, and the increase in clubhead speed is around 10mph. I think this is fairly representative of what the average person might expect from using the chain regularly.

I now use it to help me with lag ... The flow of the chain helps me to sequence the downswing in a way that when I do it right, I get the sensation that my body is part of the chain and flowing with it.

It's easier on the shoulder joint than say swinging a heavy club like Momentus. There is much less centrifugal force acting on the shoulders. You can consider it to be a low impact form of exercising your golfing muscles.

I have a used carpet, 2 meters by 4 meters, and I tie the end of the chain down to a pole using an elastic bungee cord. This prevents the end of the chain from getting too close to your right foot. (ouch! ) I also use a small wooden platform ... about 8 inches high. Swinging the chain whilst standing on a raised platform gets more of the chain in the air and thus you get increased resistence. The chain seems to flow better too.

Anyway, whilst at first glance it seems expensive, it's something that is fun to use and does what it's supposed to. Worth the money, IMO.

Jono,
Do you feel the Swing Chain replicates the actual golf swing?
I tend to lose the down, down and out feeling necessary for good golf. Perhaps the platform increases the down action??

Yeah, I agree. If I swing the chain whilst standing on the ground, I tend to swing it UP and out to get more chain in the air. When I stand on the platform, it feels more like an on-plane golf swing (ie. DOWN and out).

If you haven't tried it already, the raised platform is definitely worth a go. I get a much better workout using the platform and tying the end of the chain down with an elastic cord than simply swinging the free chain standing on the ground.
