This photograph was published -- without description oridentification of the supporting cast -- in the Sports Illustratedarticle Bible or Bull (July 7, 2003). I don't know where they got thephoto (but I do know who has the negative!).
The central figure, of course, is Homer Kelley, who isstanding in the driveway of his Seattle home in January 1982. Here Homer isdemonstrating true Throw-Out Action, (2-K and 6-B-3-0) whereinCentrifugal Force -- left unopposed by another manipulating outside force --"automatically aligns the Clubshaft and Clubface for Horizontal Hinging(10-10-D)" through Impact. You can see the silver, spray-painted balsawood Clubface attached to the end of the string he is whirling about his body(the same whirling action David used to slay Goliath). What you cannot see isthe small screw Homer imbedded in the center of the Clubface to serve as itsCenter of Gravity during the Longitudinal Acceleration of the orbitingClubhead. The photograph caught the Clubhead as it passed through"Impact" (8-10), with the Clubface precisely aligned for dualHorizontal Hinge Action, just as Homer said it would be.
Behind Homer arefour of the five students participating in a week-long GSEM class, one of onlya handful that Homer himself lived to conduct. Clockwise, they are SteveSnyder, Greg McHatton, Mike Holder (whose OSU golf teams have eight times beenNCAA Champion), and John Fey (who is positioned directly behind Homer andlargely blocked from the camera's view).
Behind the assembled students is the garage that Homer converted into his G.O.L.F. researchlaboratory. In it are The Plane (the same one you see in The Book) and themini-range Homer created to conduct the "hands on" experimentsnecessary to confirm his scientific conclusions.
