What is considered the 'top' of the clubshaft at address? 10-2-A, both the left thumb and pp3 are supposed to be on 'top' of the clubshaft. Can't see the left thumb in the photo, but the pp3 looks to be to the right side looking down. 10-2-B, the pp3 looks to be underneath the shaft.....text describes it as aft. So the left thumb in 10-2-B is also supposed to be under the shaft? Also, single wrist cock refers only to the left wrist? The left wrist is flat but cocked and the right wrist is flat and uncocked in both 10-2-B and 10-2-A?
Thanks
GC,
Avoid 10-2-A. You want the precision Grip of 10-2-B with both the Left Thumband Right Forefinger #3 Pressure Point directly behind the Shaft. In otherwords, if the top of the Shaft is North and the bottom is South, you want East.
Neither the Left Wrist nor Right Wrist is Cocked when you assume the Grip andestablish your Alignments in Impact Fix (2-J-1) per 10-2-0 and 7-8. In theirImpact Alignments, the Left Wrist is Flat, Level and Vertical and the RightWrist is Bent, Level and Vertical (Chapter 4).
I know that you've bundled up your Golf Clubs for now (per my earlierinstruction) and that they are not available for Grip practice right now. That's okay. Just use your wooden dowel. Without a Clubface to worry about, itshould minimize the problem of 'Top or Bottom' of the Shaft! Just make sure that your Left Thumb and Right ForefingerPressure Point are on the same line on the right side of the dowel.
Here's how to assume your Grip. With one end of the dowel resting on the groundin the middle of your Stance (or even slightly behind middle) and the other endpointing just outside your left pants pocket, run the dowel about half wayup your Left Forearm. Keep it there until you get to Stage Two (12-5-2).Even then, you should keep the dowel in line with your Left Forearm, allowingit to move away only when the Right Elbow Cocks the Left Wrist.
Next, follow Items 2 through 8 in 12-5-1 to establish the Body Positions andthe Plane Line. When this has been done, proceed to establish your Basic Motionper Items 9 through 22. What we're talking about is a continuous backand through Swinging Motion of about two feet in each direction. The Two KeyAlignments to Monitor in this continuous back and through Basic Motion arethat your Left Wrist remains Flat and your Right Wrist remains Bent.
Practice each Arm separately -- a lot -- before you practice themtogether. Make sure that the dowel is under the Heel of the Left Hand inyour Left Arm practice and in the Cup of your Right Hand for Right Armpractice. Even after you begin to practice them together, begin each practicesession with Arms Separate practice.
As you practice, don't forget to look, Look LOOK to make sure thatneither Alignment breaks down, i.e., that your your Left Wrist doesn't bend orthat your Right Wrist doesn't Flatten. Your Flat Left Wrist should beLocked and your Bent Right Wrist should be Rigid. Also, as you Swing your Flat Left Wrist through this Impact Interval ofthe Basic Motion, think Clubface. As you Swing your Bent Right Wrist through, think Clubhead.
This should keep you busy for a while. Post if you have another question orwhen you feel you're ready to move on.
