Have been playing golf for a very long time, and studying different systems for just about as long. So, today I arrive at this site with great anticipation and enthusiasm both of which have been replaced by confusion!! I have watched Billy Mckinney's golf video several times, he is a golfing machine master instructor, anyway I thought I had it pretty locked on, but then as soon as I got on this site I watched the Tom Tomlison video and now I'm lost. Here I'm trying as hard as I can to delay the release, to create lag and to keep my right hand locked into the cocked position at impact and then I see Tom telling us to release immediately, throw or cast from the top and literally go completely against McKinney's teaching let alone Leadbetter and McClean. I am a 3 to 5 handicap 61 year old grandpa who has had 4 rotator cuff surgeries in the last 3 years, both of which have cost me major distance, 250 yards is now big. Thanks to all Dan
Confusion, yes I can understand that. The Golfing Machine per-se is not a method or style of instruction. It does have two patterns, one hitting and one swinging for what would be called an uncompensated swing.
Your instruction with Billy is not surprising to be different than of Tom's. Not knowing the details of Billy's but your comments make it clear there is conflicting information and that is to be expected when two instructors of different preferrences are compared, especially isolated from each other.
For more info on Tom's swing, a quick search for 4 barrel swing on this forum will give you some reading materials.
Yoda (aka Lynn Blake) teaches TGM in the purest form. You may find that either asking direct questions regarding your stroke or reading some the the threads in the hitting and swinging sections may remove the confusion.
