I guess this is the most appropriate place for this thread. Here, The Lab, Basic, Advanced, who knows.?.?
The summary version of the story is this:
One of my students, Richard, has made great progress in changing his Swing. His geometry is soooooooo much better. We've been out to play a few times, and he's been more than disappointed with his distance. Keep in mind that we've made him play from 7500 yards a couple of times, and he was not ready for that part. It doesn't help matters that I've had some of my best driving days when we played, so he's a little tough on himself.
Because his Plane has improved so much, we are in the process of improving the physics. We've done some experimental things, drills with dowels, impact bags, chains, etc. to build speed. And, we've seen some results. He started with driver speeds between 85 mph and 94 mph. Recently, we've topped out at 104 when hitting a ball. It's been a huge breakthrough for him. Here's the interesting part...he has achieved speeds between 112 and 118 with a 3/4 inch dowel and an impact bag. So, we're still working on achieving similar speeds between the club and the dowel.
When I first tested myself, my speeds were 115 with both the driver and the dowel. It was about what I had expected, as my speeds are typically around 112 to 115 with the driver. Today (about one week later), we saw something that I've never seen. Richard asked me to Hit a few. He wanted me to get the highest speeds that I could with the dowel, then the club. My highest speed with the dowel was 126, and my next drive was an astounding 124 mph!! I've never been in the 120's. And, I was able to capture a drive on video at 123 mph.
Even with the little time that I had spent in doing the demonstrations, I picked up considerable change in my own speeds. We're going to keep going to see how much change each of us can accomplish.
We're both looking forward to the next few weeks. Is 130 mph possible for an overweight, 38 year old, Hitter? We'll see.

VERY VERY Interesting stuff Meathead . . . So do you have a theory on how this works? Is it a mind thing? A mind in the hands thing? A "reduced" "hit impluse" thing?
What is your theory on these here resluts/findings?

Do tell more...
What specific drills helped the most?
What are you using to measure the speed?
I would assume you have never used HGH or steroids or ever thought of using them or have ever played for the Yankees?

Breaker Breaker . . .
All of the above is the answer, with a touch of Steering thrown in for good measure. The fun is getting the rapid change. That's where more needs to be tested with the drills, etc.

A picture of me without a shirt is enough to get the free pass on the pee cup. If I looked like this and had taken steroids, I'd sue the company for false advertising.
I think it's called Swing Speed Radar (about $99).
I've got to test some more to see which drills helped the most.
Last February I went to a indoor Long driving contest. When I was there I decided enter it. I had 20 minutes to warm up. I made some changes to my swing, added lagging club head take away, float loading and some other things.
For warmup I used one of the drills Comdpa posted, I think it was called "the pyramid drill". I focused on maximizing Acc2 lag and PP#4 pressure in the downswing.
The result was the 3 first tries was around 136-139,5 mph clubhead speed, not very straight. Then I decided to slow down a bit to be able to hit the grid.
The last three tries where around 115 mph and straight and the distance was 290-295 yards.
I believe my normal clubhead speed at that time was 105 mph.
I have been using a couple of versions of the Speed Chains, but not the fan.
Congratulations on the new personal best. That's some serious speed for the Hitter. It further shows the true power of muscle power.
I noticed on a Speed Chain website they recommend a FAST Start Down. "Transition to downswing should be fast." It seems, of course, they envision it being used for transferring momentum. Because that's the only way to swing a club, right. I was wondering if you've found it useful for training the Hitters muscle power and how you've incorporated the chain's use with a SLOW Start Down. Do you use it for Total Motion or just work the Release interval?
