Would extensor action in hitting vs swinging, be applied differently or with a different feeling?
FL-John
Hi John,
The Extensor Action application is the same for both Hitters and Swingers. Bothutilize Right Triceps Action to stretch the Left Arm (via the attempt tostraighten the Right Arm) from Fix through Follow-Through.
That said, the competent Hitter has somewhat of a natural advantage, especiallyfrom Release to the end of the Follow-Through, in that his Right Triceps is alreadyactively and correctly on full alert in preparation for the Right Arm Thrustthrough Impact. The Swinger, on the other hand, derives his power byaccelerating his essentially passive Left Arm via Right Shoulder Turnthrust. Despite this Right Shoulder "blast off," the Right Armmust remain passive. Any Right Arm Thrust can contribute little or nothing tothe centrifugal power already created and will, in fact, most often createunintended consequences, e.g., at best, Hinge Action inconsistencies, and atworst, out and out Throwaway.
Nevertheless, the Extensor Action demands at least some Right Triceps activityin all Players. The Swinger's challenge is to have enough to maintainthe Extensor Action, and yet not allow that Below-Plane stretching action todeteriorate into an On-Plane thrusting action, i.e., an actively drivingRight Arm. To that extent, the Swinger's execution might be somewhat moredifficult than the Hitter's, especially in the learning stage. However, oncethe correct mechanic has been reduced to a feel, Extensor Action will bereliably and subconciously reproduced by both Hitters and Swingers, and anyinherent advantage or disadvantage will be rendered mute.
