You know the Scotty Cameron thing about feel really being a sound and how when its your cooking it never tastes as good? Well I'm wondering if we really hear our own shots properly? Maybe if we were blind folded or something. Hey doesn't Karrie Web have a blind golf instructor? He just listens to the sound of impact.
I've only heard the sound a few times with my putter. Only when using a push stroke, never with any other kind. I think its a push, anyway. Shows how bad my putting alignments and Impact are.
I hear the swoosh and where it starts on every shot. I also am keenly aware of the sound of my ball strike and that of others. I know people that get that perfect sound on every shot and golfers that never get it. Some of the never get it golfers beat the one that do by 6 strokes a round.
Even when I get the sound it doesn't mean that my ball lands where I wanted it to. And most of the time that I don't have the sound my ball still goes where I wanted.
Charlie Boswell, the perennial USA blind golf champion, once challenged the great Arnold Palmer, then at the height of his powers, to an 18-hole, $10,000 nassau. [That was back when a grand was a grand!]
Arnie: No go, Charlie. I can't take advantage of a handicapped person.
Charlie: Go ahead, Arnie. Winnie needs the grocery money.
