Great stuff Ted. You and Yoda hooking up is one of the biggest blessings in recent TGM history. I hope we get to see some more of your magnificent stroke soon.
WOW! Nice playing. After my visit to the Swamp and watching you swing, Yoda had told me you were on the verge of a breakthrough. Looks like you "broke through." I have copied your set-up at address---now if I could only copy your scores!!! Keep it going! Best wishes for continued success. Have fun . Dr Dave
I appreciate all of the support. All of you guys are really kind.
I've worked very hard to change my previously wicked ways. I was a wreck when Yoda and I first met. As many of you know, I'd been given mis-matched components in my previous instruction. I was determined to spend time with Yoda, so I kept hounding him to come to Marietta Golf Center. It was a little selfish. Not only did I want to learn more from him, but I wanted him to see the changes that I'd attempted to make since we had first met. I'm thankful that I kept calling him. (Best professional decision to date.)
From the first day that I met Yoda, I've been working to make the Jedi Master proud. I don't take the apprenticeship lightly. I include teaching and playing in that mix.
This event may be the first that I've posted two consecutive under par rounds. I'd had plenty of under par rounds in tournaments before, but usually just one. I love to compete. In fact, an overwhelming amount of the times that I've shot in the 60's have been in tournaments. I have a real difficulty doing it outside of a tournament, only twice I think. I've always been very good at the short stuff, most importantly putting, but had difficulty hitting it in the same zip code. That difficulty has since faded away.
We just started another two day event today in the Section, the Griffin Classic. I'm hitting it really well, but found a little trouble on my last hole. I cruised around today really well. I made a few bogeys that offset my eagle and three birdies, but I was even going into my last hole. I hit a great drive on the par five, which made the green reachable. I was 230 out, uphill. I hit my five wood, typically a 235 yard club, and smoked it over the green. I ended up in the roots of a pine tree, which anyone from the south knows that jail is the equivalent. My third bounces up and off the root sideways and into the tree. It lands in almost the same position. My fourth hits the root, bounces straight up, and lands on hard-pan in the middle of the roots. My fifth is a LW off the hard-pan from about 50 feet away and end up about twelve feet from the flag. I drain it for a well earned six. Bogeying the last gave me a 73 and a late tee time. I'd hoped the last would be a gimmie birdie for another 71, but no such luck.
I really feel like I've got a good round just waiting to get out. We'll see tomorrow. If I hit it as well and cut out the mistakes, it will be in the 60's. That sounds pretty bold (even to me), for a guy that could shoot 80 as easily as any other score a year ago.
It's not ego that makes me feel so confident. It's the confidence that I have in the little yellow book, in Yoda, and in the work that I've done.
P.S. The week that I shot 71, 71, I gave 42 golf lessons, a six hour short game school, a small clinic, and took most of Mother's Day to spend with the family. I decided Sunday night that I'd better hit some balls, to see if I could still make contact since I hadn't touched a club in a week. I brushed the dust off the clubs and hit about fifty balls, and decided it couldn't get any better, so I quit. Pre-Yoda, that kind of week would have equated to a 78, 78 at best.
