Katie Skeeles / 2008 Most Improved Junior Girl / Atlanta CC / Dec. 1, 2008

PDFPrintE-mail

A tip of the LBG cap to 16-year-old Katie Skeeles for winning Atlanta Country Club's 2008 Most Improved Junior Girl Award!

Katie and I began working together last July. She had been playing golf for about 18 months, and at the time, her 'personal best' score was 107. Within two months, she beat that score by 20 strokes, carding an 87 in tournament play. What is even more remarkable is that the 87 was produced with a 47 on the front and a 40 on the back. And that 40 included a triple at the last!

Her near-term goal statement, which she writes down in her Performance Analysis Journal after every practice session or round, is "I shoot in the 70s". Bet with this girl, not against her!

Jeff Hull / Georgia PGA Professional Champion / Georgia PGA / October 9-12, 2008

PDFPrintE-mail

Jeff Hull today won the Georgia PGA Professional Championship at Crystal Lake GC in Hampton, Georgia.

Today's round included a 4-under par stretch that began with a birdie at the 8th and closed with an eagle at the 12th. His 71-70=141 (-3) in tough chill and wind bested a field of more than 120 PGA professionals. Jeff told me tonight that, given the conditions and quality of the field, this ranked among his greatest tournament achievements.

This is a huge victory -- the names in his wake are well known both regionally and nationally -- and it qualifies Jeff once again for the elite PGA Professional National Championship next summer (June 28-July 1) at Twin Warriors Golf club and Santa Ana Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. Watching Jeff in action in last year's event, I'm thinking 'mantle and silver' in '09, and a berth into the PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club, August 10-16!

Congrats, Jeff. You're that rare breed:

A great teacher, and . . .

A great champion.

Not mention an all 'round great guy.
